Final Class

In the last class, I do not think that I fully understood the point of the assignment where we passed around the sheets of paper with sayings or actions written at the top. I was confused as to why we had to select which type of people would say or do this. In the papers that I had, all types of people could have done this. I do not think that I would have been able to limit one of those what a single, or married, or divorced person would do.

The second activity that we did was similar to one that we had done before. I was alone on one issue. The statement that I agreed with is that married people should split things 50 50 when they divorce. I pictured my own relationship when I was thinking about this question. It takes two people to make a marriage and I think they should both be rewarded for it. I know this idea is not contemporary with today's society, but I think I was imagining a perfect world when the statement was read.

just want to say that ive thoroughly enjoyed this course, and wish i could take it again and again. i'll definitely be recommending it to several of my friends as an elective. most people i've talked to about the class seemed pretty interested, which i think is a good sign that people are willing to be educated on sexuality.

our last class was like a mad rush of information, but fun nonetheless. i liked that our final activity reflected one of our first ones (the agree/disagree etc.). It's always interesting to hear people's views on certain topics, especially when it comes to relationships and sex. I did feel like some people played devil's advocate a bit much, and while i know there's obviously no wrong answer, i felt like people shoud not just rely on their own personal experiences to define their opinions. I think it's better to look at a variety of experiences, and think of things in a more general manner.

Taking this course was a great experience for me. I'm a senior now and I would say that this is the most interesting elective I've taken in Mason. I learned a lot in this course through lectures, guest speakers, textbook, class discussions/activities and videos. I thought that's a great way to teach a class so that students won't get bored. I'd rate this class as an A+

I guess I feel kinda bad for students who's taking this course in the future because Mrs. Stone will no longer be teaching it in Mason. I thought she's one of the coolest teacher. I guess our class are lucky to have her.

Well it's been a short semester and I can't believe we've already had our last Human Sexuality class. I took the class because I had room in my schedule and my roommate wanted to take it but it has definitely turned out to be one of the more interesting/informative/useful classes I have taken. This remained true up to the last class. I didn't expect us to do so much on Thursday but I was glad we did. It kept it from being boring. Well happy holidays!

Our last class has inevitably arrived and I enjoyed the journey that we went on this semester. I feel that after taking this course I truly learned some things that I would have not been as aware of if I had not. Regardless of the fact that I took this class because I was interested in the subject matter and as an elective, I got to take a look into the psychology of sexuality. I enjoyed this class and I think its unfortunate that other students won't be able to have Prof. Stone as a teacher because I like her teaching style and she even made the harder information interesting and easy to understand.

For this class, each group had to present their topic. My group's topic was on AIDs Awareness. Our presentation went well but I felt the most intriguing presentation was the one about Sex for Sale. It wasn't surprising that prostitution is one of the oldest businesses or that pornography is a billion dollar per year business. Overall I think everyone did an excellent job with their presentations, planning, and management.

Last Thursday was the last class of the semester with us ending out on 2 activites. They were intersting. All in all this was an amazing class, i've learned so much and am closer to my boyfriend. I didn't have any expectations coming in to the class except to learn about sexuality, but my expectations were exceeded by a lot. It was a fun class with interesting topics. Prof. Stone made the class real fun and intersting that made me want to go to every class and going to class is a struggle for me. She was passionate and great. I ahve not met a professor as wonderful as her. This class kept me sane becasue without it I would have gone insane. Now when I talk to people I recommend this class highly! Have a good winter break everyone!!

Today is my last blog, it is pretty sad to let go of this class, not only because it was an interesting class but also because I was taking this class with my bestfriend and it is the only class we have taken together at mason. Well, this is it, the last blog of the semester...I just want to say that I thoroughly enjoyed this class and would highly recommend it to anyone. The class was lots of fun and I really learned a lot pertaining to sexuality and how society feels, and the feelings of others and how I feel on certain issues. I am upset that its already the end of the semester because I enjoyed learning so many interesting things in this course. I didn't realize how much I learned until I had to write down the 20 things that i learned. It actually took me awhile to write everything down because I had trouble remembering it all. I am happy that I decided to take this class because it was the only class this semester I didn't mind learning new things. I didn't realize how fascinating the human body, both physically and emotionally, is until taking this class.

I was really impressed with this class, it was a lot of fun and I learned a lot of information. I really didn't realize how much I did learn until we had to list 20 things at the end of class. I thought that would be difficult but once I thought about it there were a lot more than 20 things. This was a great class and I recommend it to all my friends all of the time.

So this is officially my last post, and I can say that I've honestly learned a lot this semester (through my peers as well as the teachings). The class lived up to it's reputation and I'm really glad that I chose to take this class before leaving Mason.
My own outlook on sex and relationships has changed and developed throughout the semester and I've learned a lot about how to deal with certain situations and predicements through our assignments and lectures.
I will recommend this class to the rest of my friends and hope that they enjoy it just as much as I did!

Well, I have to say that I was pretty sad the last day of class. I really enjoyed coming to this class every thursday this semester. Our last class was sad because it is over. It was a great semester and had fun. I learned a lot and was happy to go to class each week. I liked how the teacher would ask general questions and we had to pick strongly agree, agree, disagree, strongly disagree. It is interesting to see what people’s opinions are and how they stand on certain issues. I really enjoyed this class and will miss going to it. This friday I was able to view the movie The band played on. That was a truly very touching film. I had never seen or heard about it and viewing it was defenitely worth it. Like some of the ladies in class shared with us it was very uncomfortable to watch it there.

I felt different emotions through out the film anger, sadness, and dissapointment. I wont give up any details but it was so shocking to see what the first name for the AIDs virus was. I was angry to see what was going on with the researchers working so hard on their own and having some man try to come and take full credit.

Overall, what a great film to watch and learn about.

Well, after reading everyone's posts from the Tuesday class...I'm wishing I would have gone to watch their presentations. They had some interesting things that my Thursday class didn't. Overall, Thursday's presentations looked really awesome though. I know when I did mine, I was extrememly nervous...and I just couldnt help it. I guess it didn't show too much. I liked the end of the class assignment...it was really easy for me to list 20 things I had learned...I could probably list 50!! I'm really sad that I'll never see Kelly again. She was AWESOME! I dont think I could have had a better sex ed teacher!

I Can't Believe....

I can't believe the semester has ended already. I didn't think I would make it through. I can't believe I actually met most of the requirements for this class because it was really a lot.
In our last class we got back the presentation feedback and I can't believe someone gave my group a 4. Are you Kidding me!!!

I got the lowest grade in my group because I was so nervous but the fact of the matter is I actually came up with the idea for the whole outline of how our topic would be presented. And only one other person really followed. Also I was responsible for making the power point slides as animated as they were and adding pictures and such (with the help of the one person that stuck to the outline). I was also solely responsible for writing the rational, which got full marks and a comment of exellent from Mrs. Stone. Of course none of this would be visible to my classmates and so I don't think our performance in presenting should constitute very much of our grade.

Anywhoo. I thought our last class was ok. It felt a little rushed and I guess it was because there was so much to do. The agree/disagree activity was my favorite of all and it was fitting that our last class included it. I learnt so much from this class but when it comes to listing it I didn't know where to start. when I think about it though what I've learned I've actually integrated into my actions and I can't believe I learned so much.

VAGINA MONOLOGUES!!!

I just found out today that I'm going to be in the Vagina Monologues this year again! :) I'm really excited...And wanted to tell you all (especially the ladies) -- if you haven't seen the show, you MUST! It's hilarious, sad, familiar and overall a wonderful cause and a great show. This year it will be on February 2 and 3 in Harris Theatre. PLEASE come see it! I'm telling you, even guys love it.

You remember that Kelly told us she was in it and she did the monologue called "The Woman Who Liked to Make Vaginas Happy" ?? Well, that's a monologue completely about moaning and orgasms. It's HILARIOUS!

The money for the ticket (which I think is only $3-$5) goes to battered women's shelters in DC.

so we had our last class on thursday night at u know for some reason i had expected for this class to end with a big bang...but for some reason it was just another ordinary class where i thought we will all meet again next thursday...anyhow, besides the fact that the last class didn't really end with a big bang, overall, this class was awesome. The last presentation was great! I think everyone did real well with all
of their presentations. I also enjoyed the exercises that we did in class.
It's interesting to see how I feel about topics you really don't think about
day to day, but are so important. I guess as you age you feel differently
about certain topics and change from time to time, but it's still interesting
to know more about how you and others feel. I do feel the way we think and
how we act has alot to do with our family history and how we were raised.

I really enjoyed the presentations that we had in class. I think that it is evident that all of the groups worked very hard to make the presentations interesting and knowledge based. I feel that some of the information that we went over throughout the semester was repeated in the presentations and I wish the more people would have covered information that had not been discussed in class.

Of course the negative aspect of working in groups is that some group members choose to not be very active in the group and therefore that makes everything a lot harder for the people who want to get the project completed. In my group, I felt like I was basically in charge of doing everything and I felt like I was carrying the rest of my group. I felt it only fair that I be the one to speak about the presentation that I had made.

Overall I thought the most interesting presentation that we had in class was the one about sex for sale. I think that it was a very interesting topic and the group did a good job of presenting all of the information.

Overall, i thought presentations went really well. some of them seemed to go over the same information we had already been taught, but i still thought that they were presented in an interesting way. I thought the presentation on HPV was one of the more informative and useful ones because even though the commercials are all over the television now, I did not know much about the virus.

i think that presentations were a good way to ease into the end of the semester. Because of them we received some review along with the new information. The only thing I would change about them is that I would have liked to have more time in class to meet with my group.

I learned a lot from the presetations and learned the most from the sex for sale presentation, I really had not considered all the risks that these women subject themselves to, and how much money some of them can make. The presentations were really good. I learned alot from them, esp. the HPV one... that one scared me a bit because I don't want to get cervical cancer! I went to an OBGYNO and they asked me if i wan't to get the shot so I think I'm going to ask my mom about it later to see if she thinks it's a good idea.

I can't believe today is the last class! I came into it late, but i learned so much. The subject is so interesting and i def. learned alot about my body and it's changes, about relationships, communication etc.

...this class has been really awesome. i'm really happy that i took it. i met some awesome people and an awesome teacher. kelly has been really great. this class also opened me up to new kinda of people. it re emphasized for me that everyone is different and it is OK. i love it. i appreciate diversity so much more now. this class has made the stuff you learn in high school sex ed more real. having all the guest speakers i think was the best part. I'm sad to see it end! :-(

Presentations, Evaluations, and such...

Everyone was great...the last class with all the presentations was awesome but what i didnt agree with was the evaluation process. I think someone else mentioned it earlier in their blog and i will repeat it, i don't think its fair to base the evaluation on how much a person talked during the presentation because some people are shy (me) and kinda freeze in front of others and just forget everything. i am also pretty sure that people that didnt talk a lot probably helped out more with research or some other aspect of the presentation so i hope that no one's grade goes down because of the evaluation process but other than that it was kinda fun to see all the students teach the class. I realized how hard it is for a teacher to figure out how much info is too much or what aspect to teach and go over in class. But definitely a good job for everyone :)

I thought all the presentations were great. I was surprised no one did a sex education for little kids. I guess it would just be too hard. From my presentation I learned a lot about aids and the start of aids. I was surprised that aids started in the United States in 1981 and did not become popular until a celebrity died because of aids. I learned a lot about hpv and sti. All the presentations were great. I also enjoyed the presentation about porn and the start of pornography. I had no idea that it start back in the ancient times. Tomorrow is our last class. I will miss this class. See ya tomorrow.

The majority of the material was not new to me but it was still interesting to hear from my peers. With mypresentation I think I did badly. I got so nervous. Thoughts about the class

In reflecting on the class as a whole, I really found myself learning a lot and getting to know sexuality a bit better. I have found it easier to talk about sex and relationships with my family and friends. I have gotten to know myself as well as my partner. THe conversations my boyfriend and I have had this semester has really helped the developement of our relationship. We are excited about graduating this spring and moving to San Fransisco together. I have really enjoyed learning you Kelly and wish you all the best in your next venture.

I was very suprised to see that some people feel that divorce doesn't effect the children negatively. I always felt that divorce would. This was coming from student from personal experience and I dont know from personal experience. I have several close friends who were negatively effected. Well everyone is effected differently and I never really thought about that. This class has opened my eyes to situations which I wasnt well informed of beforehand. I was never informed of babies being born without an obvious sex and was really suprised to learn all about that. I really enjoyed our guest speakers to hear from someone from first hand experience. This was by far one of my favorite classes, and frankly I feel that Mrs.Stone made the class so great. I really learned so much throughout this class. My friends and family know something is coming out of my mouth about human sexuality every tuesday night after class, because I come home and I say " hey guess what I learned today" and everyone laughs and I tell them the interesting or suprising thing that I had learned in class. I am definately going to recommend this class to others for a general elective.

Overall, I think the presentations went very well. Everyone did a fantastic job! At first I was nervous about presenting, then I got really nervous when I saw how everyone before me was doing excellent but as soon as I got up there I felt great. My favorite group presentation was the one for younger kids about how to act during their mother's process of having a baby. The group was very honest in the matter. I was realieved when they didn't tell the "stork" story when the stork brings the baby to the mommy in a sac. The pictures that they used were great because they were appropriate but realistic and factual. Good job to that group!!!

I think that if we had done the presentations at the beginning of the semester some of us would have frozen up, but it's nice to see that we can all speak so openly and freely about sexuality. I enjoyed viewing other peoples opinions about watching the presentations. It was nice to see people say good things about our presentation. See we all learned more about ourselves.

I dont really have much to say this time, which is a first! I will say that this class has been a great tool to expore and expaned upon your current level of sexuality. The nice thing is the class is a safe envoirment. The only thing I would suggest is to somehow add more interaction amount the students. I know this is a hard feat to achieve, but if somehow the students can relax, let loose, and just communicate. . . I am sure everyone will benifit and no one will belittle or make fun.

This class has been a great stepping stone and I wish there was a follow up class.

Thank you professor for being open and honest, but most of all thank you for assisting us to see beyond our limitations we put on ourselves. For example a spouce doesnt mean a person of the different sex than you are and that gays and lesbians should not be treated any differetly than left handed people. ( I love that analogy you stated in class).

I visited a health class of highschool ninth graders this past week and that is experience let me tell you. The topic of discussion was the Virginia laws on rape. The students were shocked to find out if someone has been drinking at all, and has consentual sex with another, the other can be arrested for rape. With alcohol being so previlent in our schools its a scary reminder for minors to responsible sexually.

I loved everyone's presentations last class. I sort of felt that mine was a little inadequate to everyone else's but I had a lot of fun presenting it. I think my favorite presentation was the one with turning household objects into sex toys. Not only was it humorous, it was useful. Also, my boyfriend and I have made use out of a lot of random objects so it kind of hit home too and I could relate. I'm going to miss this class.

I thought everyone did a terrific job on the presentations. I found it really interesting to see what kinds of topic people chose. I thought the topic on alternatives to sexual toys was very interesting. I also enjoyed the presentation on what sexual positions benefited men and/or women. I think presentations went really well. EVERYONE did a wonderful job, and people were very creative. I enjoyed when people really got into character and played out their roles. The presentations were a great way to deliver what we had learned ourselves about a particular subject matter. You know you've truly mastered information when you have the ability to teach it to others. Now just the final and we're done!!! I can't wait for the snow!!!

The group presentations were all great. They all covered really interesting material and I have to say I really enjoyed the one that dealt with contraceptives. I found the presentation unique with the skit the they performed. I also noticed that when they were a bit funny it would grab peoples attention.

Today I was watching the Discovery health channel and found a great show on HPV. They gave out some great information and a story on a young woman with cervical cancer. I thought the show would be a really good one to watch in class in the future in schools.

The group presentations were very helpful for the class. Not only I gained more information, but it also helped me to review and understand what we have already discussed and learned in class.

Also, about the evaluation...I think you really can't based the person's overall work from their presentation like this one group where it was only this girl who mostly did the presentation but that doesn't mean that the other two people in that group shouldn't receive a high rate bec. we never know that they might have done all the research and ppt. It is also similar in my group, I didn't talk much since I contributed mostly in our project.

But everyone did a good job in presenting their material.

We didn't have a class last week due to the thanksgiving break. I had a great thanksgiving day with my family and friends. From thursday to saturday, I had like 5 thanksgiving dinner with my other relatives and close friends. I gained like 3 lbs!!!

Also after the thanksgiving break, I met up with my group mates to finish the project. It was kind of hard getting in touch with them bec. of the thanksgiving break. But I'm glad we managed to finish the project even though we had some few slackers in our group.

It has been a very tiring and crazy semester for me. 2 weeks ago during class I was suprised to hear that Mrs. Stone commutes from PA. I don't know how she's done it. Hey guys...i thought it was awesome how K talked shared her personal life with all of us...most professors dont do that...actually none of them do but it was cool to see how she can relate to all of us by sharing something personal about herself. I was defintely surprised to find out she was married and even more surprised to find out that she was over 25, she looks so young, i was thinking she's like 24 max. it was also nice to find out her family background because i always assumed she came from a pretty understanding family background where her parents would be open to disucssions about sex but i guess i was wrong. Anyway totally cool :)

I initially registered for this class simply because I had heard such great things about it from all of my friends who had taken it. I also thought it was very important to become familiar and comfortable with issues and topics concerning human sexuality. It is such an important factor in all of our lives. I personally believe it is sooo important to be educated on every part of our bodies, even the parts we don't talk about too much. Moreover, I believe sex plays a HUGE role in a relationship. Its always nice to learn new things and little tricks about how to make your sexual experiences more enjoyable and satisfying. I know my partner is ALWAYS asking me, "so what did you learn in your sex class today?". Overall, up to this point this class has been sooooooo informative and very interesting. I will definitely recommend it to others and hope that they enjoy it as much as I have.

It is great because I have become quite knowledgeable on the subject matter after our guest speaker who gave a two day thorough presentation on the topic. Over thanksgiving break, my boyfriend came home. I hadn't seen him for 56 days (not that we were counting down...) so it was incredible to finally see him again. We saw eachother every day... On wednesday we hung out with his best friends and then ended back at my house. Thursday, after both of our families had eaten, Matt came over to meet my extended family, then his best friends and us went to see Casino Royal together (So good!). On Friday night we went to a party here on campus together with his best friends and had a really good time together and on the way back from the party we decided to spice our relationship up. I'm not going to go further into details about what we did on the road, but I had never done anything like that so it was nice to finally try something different. Saturday was our time with our friends but he came over after anyways to quickly say hello. He came over sunday morning at 9 and we stayed together until he had to leave at 1245. It was hard to see him go but I know I'll be seeing him really soon

When he was here, we disgusted one of the experimental activities a little more and found even more things that we like to do.

I really enjoyed last class. I thought that a lot of work and thought went into the presentations. I have to say my favorite themed presentation would have to be the one geared toward kindergardeners becasue it was really cute, you guys did a really good job. My next favorite presentation, which I thought was the most entertaining was the one with Kama Sutra. You guys did an awesome job, were really loud, spoke to the crowd, and the presentation was just overall really interesting. I definately think you guys did the best job. Well its nice that the semester is almost over. I am excited for our last class!! Once again great presentations, it was a good class.

As Thanksgiving ends and Christmas is around the corner I realize how thankful I am and how gratful I am for my family and friends. I appreciated each day as if it is my last and remember that nothing in life can be so bad to take revenge on another person. Life is too short to be angry or hateful. How many times have we all put our pride first and not said I am sorry when indeed it was our fault.

I am thankful that I have grown and matured to see more than skin deep. I am not sure how long any of us have on this planet, but I am making the most and enjoying every minute.

I have found the love of my life who makes me feel loved all over. My infatuation has not gone away, but truelove is present and embraces me. I have felt like I cannot live without the other person before, but no where near like this! It is amazing when you actually find someone who loves you unconditionally. I thought I loved before, but I was so wrong. The only down fall is that because I know what true love feels like. . .I dont want to know what it is like to live with out it. I have never thought of death before, now I do and dont want this love to end- death

i went shopping on black friday with my sister and my mother. it was their first time, and it was a bit overwhelming, especially since we all woke up at 5am after two hours of sleep. by nine o'clock we had already gotten a 90$ traffic ticket, and spent well over 400$ on all kinds of merchandise. by 11 o'clock we were ready for nourishment, so stopped at a diner for brunch. my sister tends to dominant conversation no matter where she is, so she began talking about her ex boyfriend and how she's having feelings for him again etc. etc. the only problem is she says, is that he had no sex drive whatsoever and was unwilling to go to the doctor's or see a therapist to figure out why. Basically, the man was happy with or without sex. this wasn't good enough for my sister, so she left him. so then she goes on and on about how someone can't be in a healthy comitted relationship without sex. I argued that plenty of older couples do, and there is such a thing as celibate people getting married, having relationships etc. i also bring up the fact that not everyone desires sex, some people have interests in other things. ascetics for example, like monks and priests. They dedicate their lives to a different kind of pleasure and fufillment. Then she asked me if I could be with another person in a sexless relationship.. i thought about it, and replied honestly: yes. If i loved the person enough and felt that our love and passion for one another surpassed our need for sex, then yea i probably could- not ruling out masturbation ofcourse. Then she accused me of being asexual, but i don't think that's the case. I just think its ok to value the person you love more than the sex you have with that person. What do you all think? heavy conversation for a light shopping outing the day after thanksgiving- i know.

So I have to admit I didn't really have any sexual topics during my thanks giving break. Although sure enough monday morning at work a great topic came up. My co-workers/girlfriends were discussing their issues with dildo's and I totally felt out of place because I dont and never have had a dildo. I didn't really know what to say and then of course they noticed the quiet one and asked me. They were all VERY shocked to find out that I didnt have one. I mean really does every girl need one. I have never even had the desire or curiousity but damn now I sure do. I feel like I need to go out and get one, it's like a nano does everyone need one of those too? The STI presentation sort of made me want to never have sex again. However, I think that that is a great way to get kids to not want to engage in sexual intercourse with a lot of people. One of my clients where I work told me about something that middle school girls were doing called "lipstick parties" where they all put on a different color lipstick and the boy with the most colors around his penis wins. Their excuse is that "it's not sex." I think an STI presentation should be in all middle schools as of right now because if they're "mature" enough to handle oral sex they should be mature enough to see what the reprocussions can be if they keep that kind of thing up throughout high school too. As gross as it was, I think the STI presentation was a useful way to kind of bring us back to reality of what is out there and that it can happen to any one of us.

So I went to Mississippi for my thanksgiving break and it was crazy. My cousin got married without anyone's knowledge so she didn't come around because she knows that everyone is pissed her. We all think it has something to do with her having sex with him before they got married and is now trying to cover it up. If you can tell, my family is moderately traditional, you get married first then have sex. But alot of my cousins have had sex and kids before they were married and even though the family snarls at it, they welcome it. I guess this comes from having a christian/ baptist background. They see that sex is only for procreation not for pleasure however, everyone that has had sex has had a child. My goal is for that not to happen. For one I dont want children plus, it wont be welcomed in my the minds of my immediate family.

The STI class was great. I learned a lot from our speaker. I have heard of most of the infections before but it is always good to hear again. Everyone needs to be careful and I think that if people know about the risks it will help to prevent spreading more. The school spirit she brought in was hilarious. And thanks for the free condoms, can't complain about that.

On this lovely Thanksgiving Day, my house is filled to the brim with stereotyped gender-roles. My father and my two brothers are sitting in my living room, watching football. My mother is in the kitchen toiling away to prepare a magnificent meal for the five of us. My kitchen is like ten feet away from my living room, so my brothers can see my mom working her ass off out of their peripheral vision. Preparing a meal of this size is a lot of work, but does this get either of my brothers away from the TV to help? Of course, not. The only help they and my father offer up is calling out "Is dinner almost ready?" every so often while they stare like zombies at the football game. Strangely, this doesn't seem to bother my mom. She loves having the whole family here so much that she doesn't seem to mind the workload it entails. Plus, lucky for her, I think football sucks; so I'll be helping her set things up as soon as I'm done with the next sentence. Happy Thanksgiving, everyone.

I was very impressed by the confidence Prof. Stone displayed in sharing a bit of her sexual history with the class. She seemed so relaxed and uninhibited, telling some pretty personal things in front of a large audience. I'm glad she did this at the end of class, though; because after learning that she identified as a bi-sexual, I found it a little difficult to concentratrate. I thought she was hot before, but now she has some serious fantasy potential (Sorry if I'm a bit out of line, Prof. Stone; I hope this flatters, not offends, you).

something new also with our speaker's discussion on STD's/STI's. It's scary
that most STD's do not have any symptoms associated with them. I have

oh my god, I almost died of laughter when our guest speaker put "Gunston" and "George" the yellow and green dildos on the table and told us that they had Mason spirit! haha. That was great.

I thought the guest speaker again was very good, and very informative. The slides reminded me somewhat of health class in high school, but this go round was more enjoyable, because i am more mature. I also like the fact that she is more our age, which made the presentation that much better because she was able to relate to us easier and be humorous.

While I was home a few weekends ago, I was at dinner with friends. Inevitably, the topic of sex came up. Normally, I would want to walk away from the conversation or try and change the subject. Instead, I was intrigued and I wanted to ask my close personal friends a few questions. I was interested as to why this couple never has sex. I know that our book highlights possible reasons, but I wanted to know from them personally.

What I deducted from the conversation is that the female is not interested in having sex. She has never achieved an orgasm and therefore gets nothing from having sex with her partner of seven years. I believe the true reason for her never wanting to have sex is that she is not comfortable with her body. Over the years, she has put on weight and I think she no longer can see herself as attractive.

I also learned that the male feels the need to masturbate multiple times in one week. I wanted to know why he had to do this. In our book, it claims that he reason most people masturbate is to relieve sexual tension. He said that this is not the case and he does not have one specific reason for masturbating.

The people are close friends of mine and I have never wanted to ask them about their sex life. I never want to even talk about anything close to this topic. I feel that this class has opened my mind and I do not feel uncomfortable when talking about sex. It makes me think of the children's book "Everybody Poops." Everyone has sex and people should not be embarrassed to talk about it.

I really enjoyed the guest speaker that we had today. At first, I was not sure what she was talking about when she kept mentioning STIs, but I assumed that it was something similar to STDs. I had never heard the term before and I think that STDs will never be replaced with STIs. I do agree that STD does have a negative connotation associated with it, but the reference has been used for so long that I do not think that it will change.

I thought that the speech was informative and graphic as well. One major thing that I realized was how easy it was for a baby to get infected with an STI. Of course I am well aware of the birthing process, but I guess that I have never really put two and two together to realize that natural child birth can be very dangerous for a baby.

I fully intend to get tested right before I have a child to ensure its safety.

sex experiments

i finally finished my sex experiments and they turned out to be very helpful. i did most of my experiments with my partner, which wasnt too easy since we have only been seeing eachoher for a couple months. but we did things like, talk about different ways to increase our sexual enjoyment, talked about birth control, and talked about ways we can make our relationship healthier. although it was weird at first because i still wasnt ready to open myself up to her yet, once we started to talk it was perfectly normal and comfortable. we both learned alot about eachother and became much more comfortable and open about any topic not just sex. i suggest anyone who has a partner to do these experiments with them even though its too late to get a grade in the class, because the benefits in your relationship are really great they will really help you grow.

this entry is regarding that one class exercise where we all talked about where we all stood (literally) on certain relationship decisions and stereotypes.. one of the questions was, "is it better to leave a relationship without a word, or talk to the other person and inform them as to why you are leaving"-or something along those lines. Anyway, a point that was made was, "what if that person totally disgusted by you, would you really want to hear that from someone, or would you prefer them just to leave without a word?" some people felt in some circumstances this might be called for, but most of the class felt adamently that either person should always be willing to tell the other person why they are leaving, and it's never ok just to go. Then, afterward we all had to write a reaction to the exercise where someone wrote something like "i find it hard to believe someone would be in a relationship where the other person totally disgusted them anyway". This statement has never really settled with me, and obviously i don't know who wrote that because it was all done anonymously- but i guess this question is really for who ever wrote that.

Is it really not possible to be in a relationship that unhealthy? Does this kind of relationship not potentially occur everyday, through out many different cultures? Perhaps the person who wrote this response had never had any experience with a bad relationship- or atleast a good relationship gone bad, but some of us out there have been that unfortunate. I felt it was a bit presumptuous to assume that everyone is always in a relationship where both people are in love, or actually care for the other person- because unfortunately the world isn't always so perfect, and yea, some people do get caught up in the kinds of relationships where one person may actually be "disgusted" by the other person, and in which case, it may be better for everyone if that person just left without a word- especially if it has been a violent relationship. Is it really necessary-for instance- for a wife to talk to her abusive alcoholic husband as to why she is packing her bags? Is that really a smart idea?

I also think that it was cool the Professor Stone told us her Sexual Autobiography because after all we did tell us hers but she didn't have to do that. I don't think many professors would have done that so I thought that was very neat.

Birth Control

I know we've talked this issue to death, but I wanted to bring up the issue of birth control and sex drive again.
Previous posts have discussed how certain birth controls can have decrease sex drive, however I have found that since I went off of my birth control, I have almost lost my sex drive entirely.
I've been on birth control since I can remember, and I've had a crazy sex drive since I can remember. I love sex and have never found myself at a state in which I wasn't in the mood. Yet more recently I've found that I could go without it. Scary, I know.
Does anyone have any thoughts on this?
Is it the decrease in hormones?
How come it's working the opposite for me?

I dont know of any teacher that would have allowed that Q&A in class and I really respect her for it. I know there are two sides to every story, however I do not think our speaker was informed enought about the facts to be presenting that kind of material to the students. I found too often "I think" or "probably" or even "I guess" to be coming out of the speakers mouth.

I was not impressed with her presentational knowlege. I was interrested in the subject she was speaking about, but I seemed to be left more in the dark rather than being informed. I fear her lack of detailed information might be harmful. One person asked a strong question about HIV and her reaction was "that should not happen".

I would appreciate someone better to be honest and say "I dont know the answer to that question, however I will find out the answer and get back to you" or even responding "I dont know the specifics, but here is a contact or web site you might want to use to find out your answer specificly."

In my opinion someone who speaks to the masses needs to be informed more that than people you are speaking too. I feel GMU could train her or anyone under their employment better to fully address questions or concerns that their position requires them to communicate. I almost felt the blind leading the blind.

Not all was negative. I felt her passion and knowledge when she KNEW what she was talking about and when she was able to fully answer a question a student has asked her. I just feel she could or should have been more informed about the info she was presented or have an option to obtain the answer if she was uneducated about it herself.

Overall it was a good experience, I just wish she was more factual.

I was so shocked to hear about some of the STI's and STD's that were mentioned during the presentation because I haven't heard of some. I regularly get tested for the basics but I had no idea there was so much more out there.

The whole presentation was actually quite enjoyable. Our presenter was funny as well as informative. I really enjoyed myself.

I always enjoy having a guest speaker in our class. I think the images that were shown last class were helpful for us to realize that different types of STIs or STDs should be taken seriously. It made me aware how I should be extra careful and should take those free test (whether I think I'm clean or not).

Also, I was surprised how professor can live so far and commute all the way to Mason. Shoot, I live in Gainesville and always complain repetitively about how bad the traffic everyday! In addition, its pretty interesting how we got to know a little bit about our professor's (sexual) background.
